Wordless performance.

Is it possible to be yourself in a world full of roles to play?

Three performers in worn-out socks and trampled sandals embark on a journey through the sometimes funny and clumsy, and at times even shameless jungle of male identities.

Combining slapstick humor with blunt physicality, crazy acrobatics, and grotesque choreography, the performance takes a close look at the modern man—an adult boy torn between soft values and hard poses, movie role models, and everyday expectations. It asks where strength ends and sensitivity begins, and gracefully draws the audience into the search for answers.

Brilliant video projections, energetic music, and action movie-style absurdity, combined with extremely precise stage movement, come together in a daring tale of masculinity that defies stereotypes and expectations.

DON GNU guarantees physical theater and dance that combine into a playful and poetic image of human strength. The company was founded in 2010 by two choreographers, Jannik Elkær and Kristoffer Louis Andrup, who also form the artistic duo at the helm of DON GNU. Currently, the theater is one of the most frequently presented companies in Denmark. In addition to its intensive activities in Denmark, DON GNU has presented its performances in all Scandinavian countries, South Korea, Canada, much of Europe, and Cuba.

The name of the company refers to the paradox contained in the name DON GNU. Don as an individual and Gnu (wildebeest) as a herd animal – the combination of individuality and collectivity creates the dynamics, experimentation, and basis for the development of ideas that are the hallmark of DON GNU's productions.

SENSITIVE CONTENT INFORMATION:

The performance explores themes of masculinity, playfully engaging with male aggression and rivalry. The actors undress down to their underwear and interact with the audience.
