Can you remain yourself and stay calm at the same time?

In the subtle and contemplative Tranquillo, the artists remain, events happen, time passes slowly. Everyday life, ordinariness, becomes a space for attentive encounters, a stage for true and sincere presence. With gestures and rhythms, using a minimum of words, the artists of Teatr Klucz – people with disabilities – break stereotypes about theater and dance and invite us to pause and look at what is hidden beneath the surface – in ourselves and in other people.

The performance is suspended between emotion and impression, at once very concrete and precisely performed. The artists dance their limitations and dance their daily transcendence.

"We stand before you. We stand close to you, very close.

We look into your eyes.

We hear your breath.

We breathe your words.

We wait.“

A movement performance with a small amount of text, presented with audio description.

‘Tranquillo’ means ”calm" in Italian. It is a term used in musical notation to help performers convey the mood of a piece. In the subtle and contemplative “Tranquillo,” the artists remain, things happen, slowly permeating. The artists, paradoxically calm, invite us into their world and give us, the audience, a chance to be with them, to look at their (un)ordinary everyday life. In fact, it is a performance about ourselves." (Janusz Orlik)

The actors of Teatr Klucz participated in the "Przylesie" Occupational Therapy Workshop run by the Na Tak Association. Their adventure with theatre began in 2006, with a theatre workshop led by therapist Hanna Rynowiecka and actor Wojciech Deneka. For several years, the group has been working at the ZAMEK Culture Centre under the watchful eye of professional artists. This year, the artistic supervision over the group is exercised by Janusz Orlik, a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. Professional dancers have also joined the group.

This performance has been produced as part of the t performative arts programme "Presence", delivered by ZAMEK Culture Centre in Poznań, thanks to funding from the EEA and Norway Grants.
