What are the costs of managing the elements?
The performance “Departure” tells the story of the consequences of unsustainable resource management and ignoring the laws of nature. It was inspired by real events – catastrophic floods in Slovenia that destroyed homes and the lives of many people. The creators tell the story of an ordinary family evening, suddenly interrupted by a natural disaster. The simplicity and realism of this story contain a warning: if we continue to disregard the balance of ecosystems, nature will ruthlessly reclaim its rights.
The performance combines a documentary character with extraordinary visuals and sound. Miniature models of houses, streets, and characters—made mainly from biodegradable materials—create the illusion of a real world that is being destroyed before our eyes. Precise animation and an intimate stage space draw the audience into the very center of the events.
Departure is a call for change – a departure from current practices that destroy the environment and a search for ways to coexist sustainably with nature. The performance raises questions about responsibility – personal and collective – and how our daily choices, consumption, and mobility shape the world we live in.

Tin Grabnar works at the intersection of performance and theater practices, especially as an in-depth researcher and analyst of contemporary puppetry. In 2015, he graduated from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana under the supervision of Sebastijan Horvat. He deepened his knowledge through collaboration with renowned directors such as Tomi Janežič, Tomaž Pandur, and Jernej Lorenci. This gave him a comprehensive insight into various theatrical practices and performative strategies. His works skillfully combine elements of dance, improvisation, contemporary puppetry, magic, performance, and visual art. He has received numerous national and international awards for his productions “Somewhere Else” and “Still Life,” produced by the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre. His work focuses on visually powerful and contextually deep performances that address emotional, ethical, and philosophical issues, emphasizing a sustainable lifestyle as a fundamental theme in both the content and context of the production.
